Explore the multicultural city on the crossroads of Mediterranean and Central Europe, which will charm you with historic cafés, art, culture and architecture. Facing the Adriatic sea, and very close to Slovene border, Trieste has been for centuries a mixture of cultures and thoughts. The largest of the Adriatic ports is known for its numerous cultural and historical monuments, palaces and churches. On a guided walking tour you will see the town’s old streets, ancient Roman theatre, some of the churches and beautiful squares.
After the city tour you will visit the Miramare castle, the beloved home of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg (brother of Emperor Franz Joseph). Maximilian fell in love with the view of the small bay, and decided to build his home here, where he lived with his wife Charlotte of Belgium. The castle overlooks the sea and is surrounded by a huge park full of rare and exotic tree species collected by the Archduke himself in his scientific expeditions around the world.
